Bleeding Gums

Bacterial infections arise in the gums and in tartar on teeth that produce toxins that erode dentin and cause inflammation of the gums. The inflammation makes gums swollen and red, and that increases the tendency to have bleeding gums.
Bleeding gums is more commonly seen in adults in the form of gingivitis, although improper brushing may cause bleeding gums in younger people. In case of adults, it is often related to some level of periodontitis, or gum disease.
Adult women have higher incidences for bleeding gums than adult men.
Gingivitis is most common cause, and bleeding from the gums comes usually near the base of the teeth, known as the gum-tooth margin.
